Please take a look OCS Inventory NG Installation and Administration Guide . For MS Windows machines, you can copy a OCSNG Agent(Stand agent)into a USB key for collecting inventory information for standalone machines; then upload inventory files via web console. OCSInventory.exe /local can generate a .ocs file; you'd better make a batch which has only this command. I assume you could do it against a Linux machine. Sure, you can do it.
